Steve Ballmer tried to prevent Munich from moving to Linux

Steve Ballmer tried to prevent Munich from moving to Linux

Munich, Germany city, it's not only one of the largest cities in Europe, but is also one of the first cities which had decided to abandon the Windows operating system, and the transfer of all the computers to the Linux system, in a large project with more than 15 thousand computers.

The plan of this migration, has begun since the last decade, and that the transition to a distribution called LiMux distribution official in the city of Munich; has served as evidence that open source products are able to replace the Microsoft products.

In spite of this, however, that this is faced considerable opposition, not only from internal officials, but also by organizations abroad, claiming that the move to open source may not be a successful investment.

Perhaps one of the biggest opponents, he was the "Steve Ballmer" (Executive Director of the above Microsoft Corporation), who is responsible for Microsoft's business in the city of Munich, when he decided to dispense with Windows.

An article which was published on website, and citing information provided by the "Peter Hoffman," the head of the project LiMux, the Steve Ballmer himself decided to travel to Munich to discuss the mayor to convince him using Microsoft software instead of open source.

- Hoffman says:

Steve Ballmer has tried to convince the mayor that it would be a bad decision if you go to open source, it is difficult to manage and adopt it.

But some members of the City Council gave him a strong response, saying :

How a person thinks, even if he is from a giant company, could have come here and simply, believing that he could change our decision?!

What happened after that, was very funny, especially in the skills of Palmer in negotiation; Hoffman adds:
He was president of our municipality is prepared to hold a meeting with Steve Ballmer, and because English is not his native language, he asked the translator "What I'm saying if you do not have the right words to say to him?"; Replied the interpreter: "Be quiet, and after finishing his talk, little thought then say, "what can you offer us is not it?" and then during the meeting, the head of our municipality has nothing to say to Palmer, except to repeat the words, "what can you offer us is not it?" several times, and years later, Palmer has deeply impressed by the extent of the difficulties faced in the negotiations. "
In the end, Munich decided to turn to the Linux, and Microsoft has lost one of the most important battles in history; it is clear to us now evident that Munich is perfectly fine without Microsoft products.

LXDE is a free desktop environment for Unix and other POSIX platforms, such as Linux or BSD . The name stands for " Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment ".LXDE X11 Desktop Environment uses Openbox as default manager and it aims to provide a lightweight and fast desktop based on independent components that can be used in other environments.
! Well, in my case, I have to say that for me is the best desktop environment other than openbox , of course , if they like what it light : b .

Most popular linux distributions that comes with LXDE by default :

Of course they are a lot, but we chosen the most popular ones.
Let's begin ~

1: Lubuntu

based on debian / ubuntu, the best distro for me until I get to the 13.10 version u_u ... but I'm not one to say that , Lubuntu is an Ubuntu variant fast distribution , lightweight and energy saving using desktop LXDE (Lightweight X11 desktop Environment). Is thought to have undemanding system requirements and is designed primarily for netbooks , mobile devices and older PCs . in my case I recommend it 100 % for netbooks.

debian / lubuntu Based distro , recommended for desktop , lightweight and easy to use based on presenting Lubuntu LXDE desktop environment . Compared to its source distribution , LXLE has a number of unique features : It is built from the editions of Ubuntu LTS ( versions of long term support ) , covers the daily needs of most users by providing a good selection of default applications and useful adds modifications and adjustments to improve performance and functions . I recommend it for family computer because it has a lot of programs.

3: Peppermint OS

debian / lubuntu Based distro, aims to be super quick and undemanding to system resources . Using Mozilla 's Prism technology Peppermint integrates seamlessly with web -based applications or in the cloud. Other features of the distribution include automatic updates, easy step by step installation , a neat and friendly user interface , and increased mobility by integrating directly with Cloud-based applications. For me It's the best stable lxde distro :) recommended .

Knoppix can be used as a Linux shows , educational CD, rescue system , or be adapted and used as a platform for demonstration of commercial software products . No need to install anything on a hard disk. Because the fly decompression , the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it. : D ,besides being super fast , and work on ANY pc: D.

5 : WattOS

Linux distro based on debian, and soon it will move to debian / ubuntu, the racial struggle to be as efficient in energy use as possible so that it can be used in low capacity computers recycled . What I liked was his key role , " energy " as is consuming minimum amount of energy , it is perfect for old computers and all any laptop, so I like this distro , battery spends the uffffffffffff lentox : 9.
